Liberal Love Letters From Anti-Hunting Moonbats & Media Manipulated Stooges

We were recently interviewed by two Arizona news papers – The AZ East Valley Tribune and the Arizona Republic.  One story generated mostly positive calls and emails, while the other generated several death threats.   Yep, death threats.  The contrast is worth examining.

Miscellaneous Moonbat

What’s noteworthy here is not that the news stories are different – there will always be differences from reporter to reporter & editor to editor, and we realize “news” is written for the benefit of the paper and for profitable ad revenues.  What’s most interesting, and somewhat fascinating, is the way some people can be so easily manipulated to homicidal hostility by an article that’s had no independent review.

When a reader takes the time to send me an email that reads:

Comment: “I’d F$#&ing shoot you in the head if I saw you in person. You filthy scumbag murderer of non-human life.”

It’s a safe bet this person has been, and is completely unaware they have been, manipulated.  Remember, this person, armed with nothing more than an unverified story from a newspaper, has just suggested that he/she would commit murder to avenge the death of an animal that was legally hunted, humanely killed, and then consumed as food and preserved as a trophy.

There were several others emails & postcards like this.  Not one of these windbags had the courage to identify themselves.  These are the morons with “Keep Abortion Legal” and “Meat is Murder” bumper stickers juxtaposed on the back of their Honda hybrids.

You wonder, are people manipulated by the media?  I’d say alarmingly so, but I’ve put the stories below for your review.  You be the judge. We want to know what you think, please take a moment to comment after you read this! (more…)

International Sportsman’s Expo Predator Calling Panel – Full Seats & Lots of Questions!

The first-ever predator calling panel at an International Sportsman’s Expo was a huge success.  The seats filled up quickly and there was no shortage of questions for panelists.  Predator hunting is on an upswing!  Here’s a quick recap:

The Wildlife Callers' Crew - Marc Reindell, Dave Martens, and Mark Healy

This past weekend at the University of Phoenix Stadium, thousands of fishermen, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts  from around Arizona and neighboring states turned out for the Phoenix International Sportsman’s Expo.  Three hundred vendors from around the world were on hand to show & sell their products, offer advice, and entertain the Expo guests with various breakout sessions.  Predator calling was a very popular breakout session and we’re hoping to offer it in future ISE events.

The world-renowned predator hunter, author, and calling veteran, Gerry Blair, was in good spirits and entertained the audience with his quick wit & humor.  When asked about scent control on a predator calling stand, he said hunters need to pay attention to their downwind side at all times and take a shower at least once every seven days.  Sage advice from an industry original! Predator Calling, Wildlife Callers, The ISE and Mark Healy in the News-AZ East Valley Tribune

Ed Taylor from the East Valley Tribune wrote a very fair depiction of predator calling and hunting in this weeks Trib.  His write-up also discussed Wildlife Callers LLC as a new/local business in Arizona, and featured the upcoming International Sportsman’s Expo Predator Calling Expert Panel being held Saturday February 27, at 1:30pm.

The article was a mix of local event, sports, outdoors, business, and new product reporting.  With all of the negative reporting on hunting in general, and the fact that many reporters would have become fixated on the look of my rifle, we appreciate Mr. Taylor’s objective reporting on our sport.

You can thank him via email at etaylor@aztrib.com or by clicking on his name at the top of the article.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Wildlife Technologies Mighty Atom 21 caller in the article can click here.

Thank you again for supporting Wildlife Callers and reading our blog.  And, a big thank you to Ed Taylor and the East Valley Tribune for covering this story.

Comments & Questions are always welcome!

Good calling,

Mark Healy

New Year’s Resolution – Introduce Kids & Adults to Predator Calling

Since a peak in the mid 1980’s, the number of hunting licenses sold in the United States has been on a decline.  Source: ESPN Outdoors.  Anti-hunting groups are relentless in their legislative attempts to take away our legal & ethical American pastime.  Our best defense is to make sure our voter ranks are filled up with new/ethical hunters every year.  Take a kid or neighbor predator calling and get them addicted too!

I’ve always had the hunting bug, but my father was not a hunter – not even a little bit.  He used to take me deer hunting and tell me to “go look for some over there” pointing to a mountain.  He’d nap in the truck and I’d wander around aimlessly.  Then, a local teacher and predator caller, Ken Brink, took me hunting in 1986.  Bang!!  Three coyotes on the first stand and I was forever hooked.  After a good day calling, there was never a string of bad days that could deter me from going again – I always knew my next good day was eventually coming.

Here are a few predator callers who are passing the fun and addiction to people who can spread the word and keep the fire burnin’.

Ned and Liz Burris spent a cold November Sunday calling together, and Liz called in her first bobcat.  Liz could have been discouraged after 5 gray & rainy stands without seeing anything (she didn’t even see the coyote Ned shotgunned on the first stand until it was dead & down), but Ned kept her spirits up and it paid off.  What an outstanding day calling!

Coyote Finesse – Dave Martens and Dan Tone Turn the Volume Down and Nail This Pair

Dave Martens of Wildlife Callers Blog and his buddy Dan Tone of Apache Junction, Arizona teamed up for a day of mixed-bag predator calling just after our last heavy rain and snow storm.  Two coyotes and one gray fox later, they’d had a great morning.

Dave and Dan figured they’d find some hungry & willing predators after five-days of hard rain and snow throughout the state.  They headed into Arizona’s Unit 23 and in four wet & muddy stands, called in two coyotes and one gray fox.  The coyotes pictured below both came right to the speaker in under five minutes.  The gray fox came in super-quick too, stayed in tight cover, and ran out just as quick as he’d arrived.

Dan Tone - AKA "The Shotgun Sniper" and Two Excellent AZ Coyotes

The project for the day was to set up in good locations, keep the volume down, and see what some quiet calling would do.  Dave kept the volume on his Wildlife Technologies Mighty Atom at 1, 2, and 3 all of these stands.

Here is his calling sequence in more detail: (more…)
