Nothing – We will still promote wildlife calling knowledge in a broad environment.  Regardless of the type/brand of hand call, electronic game call, gun, bow, camera body/lense used to call and capture the subject animal, entertaining stories that promote learning will still find a place on the blog.  The blog mission is still the same – promote wildlife calling methods and ideas that increase caller success for hunting, bird watching, recreation, and wildlife photography.

  • Kent Jakusz:

I have been researching a new caller. I have narrowed it down to the new WT and the FoxPro CS-24. In your opinion what makes the new WT caller better than the CS-24 Fox Pro?
My study shows that the FP will allow controlling of a decoy and of course the end user has the ability to add new sounds at will. The FP remote also offers more options and further range.

I have not seen or used either of these units so these observations are second hand. Input please.

    Enjoy

  • Kent,

Thank you for the question. Here are my thoughts:

First, I have several reasons for using Wildlife Technologies, but the main reason is the sound library. Bill Martz has put over 30 years into building a sound library of actual animal vocalizations and there is not another grouping of sounds in this industry that even come close the quality and selection. The sounds are proprietary and unless pirated, they are exclusive to the Wildlife Tech callers. They can knock-off the WT KAS-2030 design with the CS-24, but they can’t knock of the sounds – only years of time & effort can overcome that disparity.

Second, I have been using the Wildlife Technologies callers for about five years now. I have never had a single problem and I find the quality of the unit and the remote to be exceptional.

Third, the remotes are simple and straightforward to operate. I have never found a need for a digital readout on my remote – I can hear what’s playing. I have my sound list memorized, and for the moments that mind slips, the card taped to the back of the remote helps me out. Furthermore, when calling mountain lions I routinely set up one hundred to two hundred yards from my caller and never have a problem getting it to function.

Fourth, when I use decoys, I gravitate toward my Mojo Critter (time delayed slight movement) or a simple white and gray goose or turkey fan feather that blows in the wind (large, eye catching, natural and very effective). I don’t see the need to have it tied into my remote. When the critters arrive, all I’m worried about is dropping the volume and shooting video or my gun. Also, if my Mojo decoy breaks I put it in the trash and order another one. I don’t like ancillary stuff tied into my most foundational piece of equipment—my caller.

Fifth, the engineering that went into the new Wildlife Technologies Mighty Atom is extensive. Bill Martz was trying to achieve a very light & small size, combined with extraordinary volume and above all, clarity. The Wildlife Technologies sound library needs to be complimented with a unit that can very clearly reproduce the sounds in the field. I am looking forward to substantially reducing the size of the caller I’m currently carrying with me without sacrificing sound. The Mighty Atom will do that.

Again, thank you for the question and the opportunity to answer.

    Best regards and good calling,

    Mark Healy

  • Kent Jakusz:

    Mark;
You make a good argument for the WT callers. Have you used the new Mighty Atom? If so how does it compare to the previous model?

    Enjoy
    Kent

  • Kent,

I’m still awaiting my Mighty Atom MA-21. It should be arriving today (I hope). I will be in the field with it as soon as I get it. I want to compare it to my KAS-2030-ML and see if it meets the demands of big canyon mountain lion calling.

One of the things that makes Dave and me successful calling cougars is the volume of the units. We can call into vast canyon systems and the exact location of the cougar in that canyon becomes slightly less important.

I will let you know my research outcomes right away.

    Thanks again,

    Mark Healy

  • Mark,
You made some great points there. With me traveling nationwide I love the massive sound library. And calling here in the south, having to deal with extremly thick woods, I find that my hand calls do not really have the reach I need. It seems like the thick woods soaks up the sound. So volume for me is critical.
I am really looking forward to seeing this ecall
in action. I have had the oppurtunity to test other ecalls and the drawback for me is the weight. I already carry around enough equipment. But the mighty atom seems like it was designed with a wildlife photographer in mind. Small compact size!

  • Justin:

    Mark,
Just received my Wildlife Technologies Mighty Atom MA-15 caller today, grabbed some batteries and my 9 year old son, and headed out across the street to an empty field. I did some coyote vocalizations and within 30 seconds got a response from a pack of coyotes. Then I hit a distress sound and within a minute had a coyote cross not more than 20 yards in front of me, directly by the caller. Needless to say I’m hooked. This thing works! Thanks for an incredibly memorable experience that I don’t think I or my son will ever forget. I think he’s hooked too!
    Justin

  • Justin,

Thank you for the comments! We’re glad it’s working out for you so well.

Your first Wildlife Technologies caller, your first stand, and your first coyote with your son – excellent!

By the way – you’re Wildlife Callers first testimonial.

    Best regards,

  • Bob:

Mark, I received my Ma-21 caller. I immediately threw some batteries in it and headed for the back yard. I live in the rural desert. I cranked it to half volume and went through the sounds loaded on the caller. By the time I had listened to the 55 sounds I had 4 coyotes running around my horse corrals at different times. I was very pleased with the sound selections you assisted me in selecting.

I’ve been critter calling off and on for 30 years. Previously, I have never been impressed with the sound quality of electronic callers. I also resented listening to a recording of someone else hand calling their version of cottontail in distress on my stand. If I ever planned on using a electronic caller it would have to be my sounds or the real deal, actual real animal sounds. I recently decided to do some lion hunting by myself and decided an electronic caller would be the best for me. My hunt partner and I have called several lions within 30 yards without seeing them approach. For this reason and several others I decided I wanted to by what I felt was the best sounding caller, that is ie actual quality of the sound and recordings of real animals. I have listened to all the callers that were on the market at the time of my purchase and made my decision. I’m not sponsored by any call company and made my decision by what I truly believe to be the best.

I was recently on a hunt where we were targeting beautiful fox and bobcat for fur. My partner was hand calling and after 15 minutes nothing came in. I said this would be a perfect test for the Atom, so I went back to our vehicle and got it. I set the caller up and started playing grey fox in distress. At 2 minutes we had two fox running to the Atom. We let that one be a Kodak moment. My partner and I ended up with 6 fox that day using hand calls only. I’m very good at calling fox but I think the Atom is better because it is the actual animal sound which I can’t duplicate. I can immitate, which sometimes doesn’t work. That’s all for now, I will post other hunts in the future.

    Thanks, Bob Bogaard

  • Darren:

Looking at getting one of these units. Just some questions on the differences between the MA-15 and the MA-21. Is the extra included sounds the only difference or is there a size, volume, power difference as well? Very interested in getting this unit….just not sure which one to get.

    • Hi Darren,

Thank you for finding our site and taking time to comment. We can answer your questions regarding the Mighty Atom callers.

There are differences beyond the included sound amounts.

The MA-15 uses 10 AA alkaline or lithium batteries or a 14.4 volt battery pack and is a 15 volt system, 120 Decibels
The MA-21 uses 14 AA alkaline or lithium batteries or a 18.5 volt battery pack and is a 21 volt system, 130 Decibals

The MA-21 will be louder as it will produce sounds at a higher decibel level than the MA-15.

The size of the units are the same 5″x5″x9 3/8″ and weigh a light 5.3 pounds, the MA-21 packs more power into the same size case. Both callers will hold a max sound library of 1000 sounds and are made of ABS Resin to handle a wide temperature swing, from -20 to 140 degrees.

We have been in the field with both, they both are very clear and very loud, I believe you will be very pleased with either model.

Please don’t hesitate to get back with us if you have any other questions and once again, Thank you for finding our site, feel free to sign up for the blog, it’s free and we will continue to update the site regularly.

I hope this info helps you make your decision!

      Best regards,

      Marc Reindell

    Mark;
I have heard rumor that WTC will adapt their callers to allow downloading of third party sounds to the library. Any comment?
Earlier in this thread you mentioned that you would get back with a report on the Might Atom. Have you gotten the new call? Your impression.
I am still in the market for a new caller. If WTC allows downloading of other sounds I will purchase one.

    Kent

  • Kent,

You’re right about the 3rd party sounds.

Bill Martz told me he’s in the process of building a software download that will allow a person to access the unused memory on their SD memory card and add more sounds. The user will remove the SD card from their caller, plug it in their computer and then add whatever sound files they’d like. The software will assure the sounds are added in a chronological fashion, allowing the sounds to be accessed by number via the remote.

The download will be accessible on-line, thus there will not be a need to return your caller for any upgrades.

To be very specific – this upgrade is for all callers with SD memory, not just the new Mighty Atom.

Of course, I must tell you that the project is in it’s beginning stages and will take about 4 months to complete. I am going to do a blog post about this matter and update it as more details become available.

    • Daniel P:

Has the ability to download your own sounds to the mighty atom come about yet? I’m just sitting on my ecaller money until this is figured out as this is a feature that would be very helpful. The latest Foxpro has this feature but I don’t want to give up the sound quality that would be needed to go with the foxpro. Any thoughts?
