Update – Hate Mail and Harassment for Idaho Wolf Hunter Robert Millage
We have been following the news coming out of Idaho since the first legal wolf hunting season opened (see our previous post here: http://tinyurl.com/nrxzjx ).

- Successful Idaho Wolf Hunter Robert Millage
Robert Millage, the Idaho hunter that called in and harvested the first wolf, has been compared to convicted dog fighting felon Michael Vick and had his personal and business contact information posted on Craig’s List. I guess no one in the hunting community should be surprised.
Robert has been taking the criticism, violent threats, and name calling in stride, knowing that he has done nothing illegal by participating in something he loves to do.
The backlash and personal attacks on Robert’s legal & ethical hunt are unwarranted. We hope this passes for him quickly and his life isn’t disrupted too much.
Your comments on this post or any of the other posts on this blog are welcome and appreciated.
Good Hunting,

I just read the article in the March issue of Field & Stream. (Granted, I’m a bit behind.) I suppose backlash to some degree was to be expected but I never would have thought threats of violence would result. Here in Oregon I hunt and fish when I can and think about hunting and fishing at other times. I must say that I give a ton of credit to Robert for being able to maintain such a fine attitude toward those who harass him over this issue. I expect folks’ tone will change when they discover some pets missing and find large “dog” tracks at the edge of the yard.

Jim,
The appropriate response at that time is “Hey, you WANTED it, be careful what you wish for, now suck it up and suffer sucker”.
Its much like that with the trapping laws and bear/cougar pursuit laws and such here in WA, I LAUGH when folks start losing their pet alpaca, goat, tabby or dog, ESPECIALLY when it can be documented that they signed the initatives banning dogs for cat hunting and certain trapping.
I have NO sympathy for the bunny huggers and fishkissers when things go awry. Usually they were TOLD before hand what would happen and chose to ignore it…and are shocked, SHOCKED! I tell you that the critters are not Disney-like and instead ravage their pets and stock.
Oh Well.

people should just not hunt. I mean, if you are doing it to survive, and you use everything, like the Indians, I think that’s okay.
I dont advocate hunting here in the UK (Fox hunting with dogs is quite barbaric) but when it is done humanely with a single shot, I find it a lot more respectable.
Wolves are beautiful creatures but theyre numbers are starting to spiral out of control in the states. As long as the animal doesnt suffer and as long as the hunting has a genuine purpose (Control) then I advocate it.
