Fox Calling Video – Took my Six-Year-Old Along

This fox calling post goes along with the earlier post here:http://www.wildlifecallers.com/blog/2009/08/24/western-grey-fox-calling-habitat-and-sign-wphotos/

I took my six-year-old son fox calling a couple weekends ago and armed him with a Quaker Boy mouse squeaker/coaxer. I called several fox (six of them) and did my best to get all of them on video – which always seems a heck of a lot harder to do than just shooting them. I’ll eventually get better at it.The video below is a fox charging into the Wildlife Technologies speaker I had hidden in a bush. The fox jumps in the bush with the speaker, raises a fuss with it, and the runs out the back of the bush. I kept calling and the fox reappears on a rock well uphill from the speaker and behind us—ending up in a horrible location to get him on video. The camera has to be removed from the tripod and spun 180 degrees.

The result is not the best video in the world, but it shows some terrain and fox behavior.

My son can be heard on the video squeaking on the coaxer and getting the fox to stop and sit down. After the fox sat down, he responded to the coaxer and came through the heavy Manzanita brush to just a few feet from us. The brush was too thick to get more footage, and he eventually took off.

All of the foxes were absolutely nutty when coming to the call and arrived in just a minute or two. It was a great morning of predator calling for my young wildlife caller.

See you in the field,
