Wildlife Callers Blog

A Blog for Hunters and Wildlife Photography Professionals and the primary source for reliable tips and information for successful calling of predators and other wildlife.

Are you tired of reading through predator hunting forum posts trying to find good information and well-reasoned posts that are easy to read, answer the question originally posted, and leave you with information that adds to the quality of your field experiences?

Well… so are we!

All too often a good question on a predator calling forum goes largely unanswered. Some of the better answers that follow a question in the thread are lost in the morass of commentary from “contributors” who have nothing to contribute but feel compelled to just add something—anything. For example, a recent question on a popular forum asked how summer heat affects animal behavior and if calling was still effective. This is a good question from someone who genuinely wants to call wildlife during the hottest months of the year. A minority of mixed responses actually answered the question and either told the predator caller to keep calling in the heat or to simply stay home until the fall. However, many of the responses were so far removed from the question being asked that the post was rendered nearly useless. Some of the “contributors” cautioned that plenty of water should be taken on summer trips, while another opined that Gatorade was a better choice. Then there was a question about ways of masking human odor from coyotes (i.e. cover scents such as skunk musk) that devolved into a fairly humorous thread about flatulence as cover. That thread eventually ended with a link to an article written by Dr. Charles R. Shawley that provided a concise and scientific answer.

Predator calling forums have a place. They can be quite entertaining and they provide a social bonding area for like minded people to banter about this avocation that drives us. Calling wildlife is quite addictive—for the hunter and the photographer / videographer alike. However, there is a need for quality information, from the best minds in wildlife calling, to be collected and presented in one location. This blog provides that location.
